Ambattur is an important industrial town located on the outskirts of Chennai. Spread over a radius of 45 Kms., it forms the most important suburb of the District of Tiruvallur. Ambattur is roughly around 13 kilometres from Central Chennai and is very well connected by road and rail links.
Ambattur is perhaps one of the biggest industrial hubs in South Asia. A number of reputed companies like TVS, Dunlop, T.I.Cycles, Brittania, Godrej and Boyce are located here. Riding on the information technology wave, a few reputed software companies like HCL and Tata Consultancy Services also have big operations here.

Ambattur OT(Outer Terminus)
Ambattur OT is one of the most famous landmarks by which Ambattur is identified, apart from Ambattur Railway
Station and Ambattur Estate Bus Stand.
Even a few years back Ambattur OT Bus Stand was an open piece of land,without any shelter, but a couple of years back a nice little shelter has been constructed for the commuters.
Though a highly congested place, Ambattur OT Bus Stand is full of life and is the most important business nerve centre of Ambattur.
Masilamani Eswarar Temple, Vada Tirumullaivayil
Though there are many temples within Ambattur Municipality area, one temple which is highly interesting and of religious significance is the Masilamani Eswarar Temple situated in Tirumullavoil, just around 2 kms from Ambattur. It can be easily reached from any place in Chennai by buses going towards Avadi, through Ambattur. For anyone with a religious bent of mind this old temple is a "Must See".
Puzhal Lake
Puzhal Lake also known as Redhills lake, is situated around 12 kms from Ambattur.
Previously this was used as a Irrigation lake. During the British Rule, it was utilised as a Military Camp and it is believed that water borne planes used to land and take-off from this lake. That is why Puzhal Town is also referred to as "Camp". In Tamil "Puzhal" literally means Camp.
This naturally formed lake's water area is around 7.5 kms and it has much more storage capacity when compared to Poondi and Cholavaram Lakes. Puzhal Lake is an important source of water for Chennai.
It is also a scenically beautiful place and is home for a variety of birds from across the world. Anyone on a visit to Ambattur should not miss this nature's creation. The lake in it's full storage capacity is indeed a gorgeous sight.
Sai Baba temple near Ambattur Rakki theatre
Another temple situated around the Ambattur area is a Sai Baba temple, which is very close to Rakki theatre. Special prayers are offered in this temple on Thursdays. The surroundings are calm and peaceful and it is a must see for people visiting Ambattur. Ofcourse, for the local residents this is a temple which is visited frequently.
