600053 Ambattur is an important industrial town located on the outskirts of Chennai. Spread over a radius of 45 Kms., it forms the most important suburb of the District of Tiruvallur. Ambattur is roughly around 13 kilometres from Central Chennai and is very well connected by road and rail links. Ambattur is perhaps one of the biggest industrial hubs in South Asia. A number of reputed companies like TVS, Dunlop, T.I.Cycles, Brittania, Godrej and Boyce are located here. Riding on the information technology wave, a few reputed software companies like HCL and Tata Consultancy Services also have big operations here. In the past ten years, Ambattur has grown phenomenally and it is poised for a quantum jump in growth over the next decade.

Puzhal LakePuzhal LakePuzhal Lake also known as Redhills lake, is situated around 12 kms from Ambattur. Previously this was used as a Irrigation lake. During the British Rule, it was utilised as a Military Camp and it is believed that water borne planes used to land and take-off from this lake. That is why Puzhal Town is also referred to as "Camp". In Tamil "Puzhal" literally means Camp. This naturally formed lake's water area is around 7.5 kms and it has much more storage capacity when compared to Poondi and Cholavaram Lakes. Puzhal Lake is an important source of water for Chennai. It is also a scenically beautiful place and is home for a variety of birds from across the world. Anyone on a visit to Ambattur should not miss this nature's creation. The lake in it's full storage capacity is indeed a gorgeous sight.
